When I was working for Permanente Dental Associates (PDA) as Professional Director of a couple of their dental offices, I had a sign on my bulletin board that stated:
Forecasting is very difficult, especially
when it deals with matters of the future.
Looking at the weather forecast for the next several days reminded me of that sign. I am hoping that the prognostication that the temperature will top the century mark is one of those times when the difficulty of forecasting results not from accuracy but from faulty data, and that it will actually be a balmy 82. Well, it could happen! I don't suggest putting large wagers on it, but...well, a fellow can dream, right?
In the meantime, it's all a part of those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer I mentioned in my Summer Solstice post. We are not immune nor unaccustomed to July days topping a hundred degrees on our thermometers. That doesn't mean I have to like them.
So, rather than dwell on the heat, Jill and I are focusing on birthdays. Yesterday was our daughter-in-law Katie's birthday. Tomorrow we will celebrate the birthday of the good 'ol USA, and today we are having a belated celebration of our daughter Tara's birthday. Her actual birthday is in June, but on that day, she had been exposed to someone who works with someone who tested positive for Covid19, so we had to postpone because of my need to be quarantined while my immune system is maturing.
Tara terminated her employment with her last employer a couple of weeks ago. We were concerned but confident in her ability to get a new job. Yesterday, she was offered a new position with an old and established athletic club in Portland. They are in the process of building a new HR team and needed someone with her particular skills. She is very excited. So, today's celebration will be twofold.
My birthday will arrive in another couple of weeks, (but in the meantime, Jill and I will celebrate our wedding anniversary). And then it is on to August, when we will celebrate the birthdays of our three eldest grandchildren. Summertime is definitely a time full of celebrations in the Waugh household.
In that same spirit, we have been celebrating daily the goodness of our Lord, who continues to bless us with an amazing recovery from my bone marrow transplant that happened 56 days ago today! And one more August celebration will be our return to our beautiful home in Dallas and to our amazingly wonderful neighbors, who have played tag team in watching over it in our absence. That is currently scheduled for August 16th.
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:4-7)
Let's all PARTY!
What wonderful celebrations. How long will you and Jill be married on your anniversary? Congratulations to everyone! :-) Donalynn
