I'm feeling more relaxed now. I have the first dose of the very potent chemo that I will be receiving over the next 5 days under my belt. Shortly afterward, I had my lunch, and I didn't Ralph, unlike following the very first dose of chemo I ever had two and a half years ago. I am encouraged. To this day I can't stand the sight of steamed veggies, a bite of which precipitated that unexpected and very unpleasant episode.
All things considered, it's been a very good day. Jill arrived about 8:20am in fine spirits. We had visits from more of the oncology staff whom we know from previous visits. Our friend Bill, who owns the condo we have borrowed in times past, is in town and dropped by for a visit and to bring Jill the keys to the place, telling her, essentially, the place is hers, when it is otherwise unoccupied. Bill and Mickie are such dear friends and so generous and supportive. Bill prays for us daily.
After the chemo infusion, followed by the lunch that stayed down, we noticed that the sky was clear and the sun was out. Knowing it is cold out, we bundled up and went for a hike around the campus. We got in about a mile and a half. We were not aware until we were outside how the wind howls between the hospital buildings. It was really blowing, but we enjoyed the walk, nevertheless.
Very soon, it will be time for my next infusion. I'll be getting two a day through next Wednesday. On three of those days I will also receive a third infusion. Then I will essentially be waiting for my body to process the chemo. That means my blood counts will all tank, and I will probably end up having multiple transfusions. Thanks to my new PICC line, they will be easy. They just plug me in, and I sit and play games, or read, or watch a video until the bag is empty.
I am especially pleased that the first infusion went well. I have not had that drug (Fludarabine) before. The other two chemo drugs are Cytarabine and Idarubicin (make note; there will be another quiz next period), which were the ones I received two and a half years ago. I weathered those drugs very well, and I am feeling confident that I can do so again.
Finally, the view from my fourth floor window is pretty spectacular.
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)
Amen on not hurling your lunch after chemo today. I'm glad you have a gorgeous view from your window and you and Jill were able to get in some exercise together. The festive tree is also a nice touch. Stay strong and God bless you . Donalynn
