Our weekend at Rockaway Beach was a smashing success. Tara was pleased and had a very happy birthday celebration. The little cottage we stayed in was perfect for us. It was old and funky, but it had everything we needed and nothing we didn't. Tara and Jill and I travel very well together. We enjoy the same things and the same pace of activities.

Our stay allowed us to check out a couple of museums. The first was the International Police Museum, which is a room in the back of a gift shop. Nevertheless, it had lots of interesting displays, including information about the rioting college students in Seaside during the turbulent sixties, and a display about Patty Hearst and the Symbionese Liberation Front.

We also visited the Maritime museum in Garibaldi, a few miles south of Rockaway Beach. I told Tara I thought we could spend a month in there. There is just so much information about the history of the coastal area and Tillamook Bay towns in particular.

Our little home away from home had a private path to the beach, and what a beach. It is long and flat and beautiful. We had a nice stroll and saw lots of people and lots of dogs romping near the surf. The weather was perfect and better than forecast, so people were out in force enjoying God's creation.

If you check out the Box Score above, you will notice that my numbers slipped a bit on Monday, but not so much as to be a problem. And my platelets went up, which means fewer worries about bleeding and fewer skin problems. On Monday, we had a consultation with Michelle, the NP who oversees my case. She was pleased with the numbers and with my progress. The one thing that she wasn't pleased with is the ingrown toenail on my right big toe. She made an immediate referral to Podiatry, so that I can get it taken care of. The first available appointment is on July 19th, which happens to be my birthday. Once again, God has presented me with another situation where I can choose to be unhappy that I have something interrupting my birthday, or instead I can consider it to be a birthday present. Ingrown toenails are no fun, and getting it fixed on my birthday will be a welcome step in the right direction. The Lord is good every day!

Expecting my labs to be good on Thursday, we have made a date to visit son Patrick and his wife Katie and our granddaughters Ryanne and Megan on Friday. They have been wanting to take us to the Raptor Center in Eugene.  It sounds like lots of fun and another learning experience.

We'll undoubtedly share a meal with the family as well. It is so nice to be able to be connected with family again after so many months of quarantine. It reminds me of the beginning of Psalm 23.

"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters

He restoreth my soul!!..." [emphasis added]

Thank you, Lord, for taking such good care of us!
