If I were to tell you I wasn't disappointed that my ANC stayed even at 770, you shouldn't be too sure I wasn't pulling your leg. My labs today showed a sharp rise in hemoglobin and platelets. I am thrilled with those results. They mean my energy level will be up, and I will be less likely to bruise, although I defy you to find a spot where I am not currently bruised. But bruising is not terribly important. I mean, the Mr. America Pageant passed me by decades ago.

ANC is different. It's the one that dictates how engaged I can be with the community. When it is under 1,000 we tend to stay in quarantine, since my immunity is sketchy. I was hoping it would bounce up, because we have become hooked on friends and family while my ANC was above 1,000 for several weeks. Now, lest I sound downhearted, let me assure you I am not. I look at it this way: at least it didn't go down, and that may mean it is at the nadir and will rise on my next blood draw on Sunday. Besides that, change is good for me. It keeps me from getting cocky.

In the meantime, I have things to do around the house. I have a workout routine that I do daily. Winding my clock collection in itself is something of a project, what with 7 clocks and weakened hand muscles acting as obstacles. I have a couple of books I am working on. We walk a couple of miles daily, unless the weather is too outrageous. (Is it just me, or has this been a rainy spring?)

Ever the optimist, I am expecting my ANC  to go up soon. It usually rises during chemo week and the week after, and next week is chemo time again. So, there is reason for hope and joy. The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Thessalonica,

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

So, I give thanks for my body, which keeps on bouncing back. I rejoice that I am still in the game, even if I'm benched temporarily. And I keep on praying...you know, checking in with the Coach, which helps me keep my head in the game. I want to be ready to go in, when He says it's time.
