Unexpected shenanigans!
Stepping from the car, after a pleasant ride home from Club Sunnyside, Tom was excited to see the new look of the front of the house, where four overgrown plants were removed in his absence. He took a few steps out of the garage, and in the midst of acknowledging a "Welcome Home!" from the neighbor across the street, he promptly found himself in a pile in the bark dust.
My knees just collapsed! Went to jelly. It is the oddest sensation when a body part just stops working as expected. There was absolutely nothing I could do, except to accept my fate. This was not the homecoming I had planned or hoped for. It was awkward and a bit sobering.
Thank God it was also short-lived. I got up and dusted myself off, thankful that I didn't go over backward and bash my brains out on the pavement. I got my cane from the house and we proceeded to take our daily walk around the neighborhood without further incident.
The day was pleasant after that. My ANC, is currently high, and on the advice and Okie, Dokie of Kari, the nurse practitioner at the Club, I was able to enjoy some fresh tomatoes from the garden. We checked out the slowly developing cantaloupes and even found some jalapeƱos ripe on the struggling pepper plants.
I am enchanted by the new view from our patio and living room out through the row of mature fir trees whose branches used to swoop almost to the ground. They are now trimmed up eight or ten feet and provide a totally different aspect on the world behind our home.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed sitting on the patio and reading our latest mystery to each other, and as the sun began to lower in the September sky we were treated to a golden lining of the coast range in the distance. Of course, there is no way to photograph a sunset adequately, so use your imagination to see the silhouetted hills against a golden sky.
It is good to be home, even if the arrival was, shall we say, awkward. I guess that was another reminder from the Lord that I really am sick and need to operate accordingly. He is so very good and so very gentle with me.
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! (Psalm 34:8)
Welcome home Tom! Home is such a blessing - I'm also thinking Psalm 37:4 "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart"
