Today is a banner day

By George, I think we've got it! I had a couple of days when I couldn't keep anything on my stomach, but the staff has worked on the problem, and now they give me an anti-nausea medication before meals. I didn't realize how much difference the lack of food was making. When I can eat a bit from time to time, my mind is clearer and I feel better all over. I thought all that "general malaise" was from the chemo, but at least a significant part was simply low blood sugar.

As of right now, I have six hours and forty four minutes to go until round one of chemo is finished! Above all, I will be happy to be disconnected from Olive Oyl. That will make walks not only easier, but I can expand my horizons. There was even a suggestion I might be able to go outside for brief periods.

So, today's activities will include more walking around the racetrack that is the 4th floor oncology department, some good nutrition and around 4:00pm, I should be finished with Olive Oyl. I will also get a platelet infusion. The chemo is working, and it kills off the platelets pretty quickly. So, in order to keep me from bleeding out in case of an injury, they give me platelets to provide some clotting ability. It is the low platelet count that is responsible for all of my beautiful bruises.

Finally, the best part of today is that it is our twentieth wedding anniversary, and Jill is here with me. It won't be a fancy celebration, but at Tara's suggestion, Jill brought Champagne flutes, in which we can toast each other with some seltzer.  When life gives you lemons, make some lemonade!

  1. Happy anniversary, dear friend!
You have set some positive goals, which is great. Keep at it...Pat and I are praying. Maybe some day in the future we can all toast together again, even if it is "Covid-style." :)
