One down, six to go
I survived my first night connected to my new pal Olive Oyl. It was not without mishap, however. Fortunately the mishap was relatively minor. Here's what happened.
I went to bed around 9 pm, and being a man of a certain age, I needed to use the restroom around 11:30. I remembered I needed to take Olive with me, but I forgot I needed to disconnect her AC adapter. The cord pulled out of the back of Olive's electronic pump, and no harm done. Before crawling into bed again, I plugged her in and off to La-La land.
About 1:15, I was awakened by an alarm clanging in my ear. I called the nurse and wound up with three people in the room trying to figure out why the battery on the pump was low. It turns out, that the cord not only pulled out on the pump end, it also slightly loosened the power brick plugged into the wall. One push and voilá, problem solved. I crashed until 4:00 when the nurse came for my every-12-hour blood draw, then it was back to the land of Nod until 6:15.
I'm feeling pretty good this morning. The first thing I did was to check my lab results. Interestingly, my hemoglobin and hematocrit were both up a smidge. My white count was down, and my platelet count was up a smidge, too. I suspect that there may be some error of random sampling in play here, but every little bit of encouragement is welcome.
I ate a hearty breakfast of French toast with Marionberry compote and sausage. It was wonderful. That was followed by a shower and clean clothes. So, here I am ready for my day. I have six more nights to go on the 24/7 chemo hookup. After that it is a matter of monitoring the results. That, I am told is when I will really begin to feel crummy. As the cancer cells die off, they take other things with them, and I become susceptible to infections of various kinds. So, hang on for the ride, It promises to be rather hairy.
I am guessing that your care team appreciate your candor and humor and good spirit. Added to the fact that you are a very knowledgeable patient with a positive attitude adds to that advantage. May the Lord bless you with healing everyday and you and Jill with a sense of protection encouragement and Grace from the Lord
