Life with the Waughs at home.

I took a day off from blogging yesterday. It was just so nice to be back into some of the old routines that I know. We got up early and had coffee while checking on email. I usually do a crossword puzzle, a sudoku and a game of solitaire. Once the games and the coffee have got my brain fully functioning, I do my Bible study. I've been going through Proverbs recently. There is a lot of wisdom in Proverbs that applies to my ministry to men struggling with unwanted sexual behaviors.

Jill served me our favorite breakfast of eggs over easy on toast, and then I got myself bathed and dressed, and we went for an early walk in anticipation of 90+ degree temperatures in the afternoon.

Jill had made an appointment to take the car in for service. It seems her daily 130 mile round trip commutes to visit me at Sunnyside for a month had put 3,900 miles on the car that we are not used to. I looked at the "Next Service Due" sticker and found we were 4,000 miles overdue! Yikes!

While she was gone to the Car Doctor, I did a few little odd jobs tweaking the amazing job our neighbors had done of reassembling our home after the new floors were installed. I'm a little OCD, and I like things the way I like them. So, sue me!!

When Jill returned we had a second walk, timed to beat the heat. Then we settled in for lunch with Perry (Mason) or Punch with Larry, as I like to call it. This has been a tradition since I retired many years ago. As many times as we have seen these episodes, we never remember whodunit!

After lunch we sorted through the accumulation of stuff that had ended up in our two dining room hutches. Jill had moved it all to the brewery so that the floor installer could move the hutches without causing a disaster. We realized that most of it we never use, so we culled out the things we do use and replaced them in the hutches. The rest we will give away.

I faded out a little during this latter project and took a nap. When I awoke, the project was done (thank you my Sweet!). I turned on the Olympics for a while. In the meantime, Jill had promised to provide a meal for our sweet neighbor lady, whose husband passed away earlier this week. She has lots of house guests. Jill tried to order a meal through Door Dash, but there was some problem and that didn't work. So she ordered from the Safeway Deli and had it delivered here by InstaCart. That meant Jill had to heat up and deliver the dinner. It all worked out, but she was pretty tired of the whole project by the end. Nevertheless, she said it felt good to be  able to minister to our neighbor in her time of bereavement.

We had our own dinner while watching "The Quiet Man," one of our favorite movies, and for my money the finest film John Wayne ever made.

And so to bed. There now, wasn't that dull? But it's how we generally roll, and I loved the sheer, homeliness of the routines. To quote Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, "There's no place like home; there's no place like home; there's no place like home!"

  1. Glad to have you back in town! Sorry my suggestions didn’t work out as smooth as clockwork! But glad Jill was able to be a helper like she loves to. When I retire, I will copy your tradition with Perry. I also love that show and never remember who did it! And Della is so stylish! ~ Joy

  2. I love the old Perry Mason's too. I enjoy seeing upcoming stars that were nobody's back then, but are now well known celebrities, like Robert Redford. Happy that you can appreciate and enjoy routine with your sweetie. ~ Donalynn
