Your PICC line is your pal
I had another very restful night. I didn't even scare the night nurse when he came in to do my morning assessment and draw blood. A couple of comments here: 1) I think night nurses get bored, so they make their morning rounds just a little earlier each day to see if we patients will notice. When I checked in the morning rounds happened about 5 AM. Today it was 3:15! 2) I love my PICC line. Instead of being awakened at 3:15 so someone can poke and poke looking to see if I have any veins left that haven't collapsed, this morning Jason calmly inserted something in my PIIC line, and voilá blood. He took five vials in less time than it usually takes for a phlebotomist to apply a tourniquet. This thing is the dream of every vampire and mosquito out there. It's less painful for me, too.
After Jason's visit, I crawled back into bed and slept another three hours. Amazing!
Jill is gradually bringing me things from home to make life seem less temporary here. I have been living in hospital gowns (you know, the ones designed by the guy with the bare butt fetish) since Friday. Yesterday, I started wearing my own PJs which feels more normal, but they are not cut perfectly for rollng up sleeves for PICC line access, etc. Jill is bringing me some short sleeve PJs and some tee shirts and shorts. I am going to begin acting like a respectable gentleman. (Stand by, guys, I will undoubtedly need some tips in order to pull that off!)
Today's agenda looks pretty clear. We are waiting on the pathologist's report on the bone marrow biopsy done yesterday. I'm told that may take a couple of days. So, I asked Jill to bring some board games, as which she will no doubt beat me, but then I need a little more misery in my life, right?
Ah, breakfast just arrived:
French toast with Marion Berry compote and bacon. How I do suffer!!OK, that's the morning update. Check back for more. After all, I have very little else to do besides writing my little tale!
